I spend a fair amount of time in grocery stores as a member
of the Authors in Grocery Stores program.
Between book signings I get to people-watch. I’m particularly intrigued when husbands and
wives grocery shop together.
I’ve noticed husbands don’t always agree with their wives on
the grocery list even though this recent Facebook post suggests otherwise:
9
out of 10 husbands agree that their wife is always right. The 10th has not reported in for
quite some time.

It’s a common challenge in relationships, yes? Coming to agreement on decisions large and
small. Sometimes disagreements can
really get out of hand even with world leaders like Churchill:
Astor: Winston,
if you were my husband, I would put poison in your coffee.
Winston: Nancy, if you were my wife, I’d drink it.

I’ve successfully navigated my way over the years to avoid or at least minimize
disagreements. (But just in case, I make my own
coffee, LOL!)
Thankfully, my wife is patient. Like grocery shopping. On the one hand, she is always prepared; has a
shopping list; goes directly to the corresponding aisles; selects the items;
and heads to the checkout without delay.
Is that how you do it? (Or, do
you prefer Door Dash or others to do the shopping for you?) Well, not me.
When it comes to grocery shopping, my preference is to go up
and down each and every aisle. I’m more
of the wandering type. Now in my
defense:
Not
all those who wander are lost.

When she agrees to shop “my way” we almost always find
something we needed that wasn’t on her list.
Of course, when my wife is short on time (or patience) she has an easy
alternative. She simply shops without
me!
Thankfully we come to agreement more than not and our long,
loving relationship remains vibrant.
Plus, I’m happy to say I can still report in!

When life gets tough we could get a helmet… or… we could leverage the peace and share the power of a positive perspective.
